Activities at Tilly Foster Farm 2008 (Admission is Free to the Following Events)
July 12th (12pm - 4pm)
Welcome Back to the Farm...This summer, two specimens of rare early American animals will make their home at Tilly Foster Farm on Route 312 in Southeast, NY:
Randall Lineback Cattle
are a rare breed of cow defined by the distinctive lineback color pattern. The first two Putnam county born Randall Linebacks, Whipple’s General Putnam and Whipple’s Dorothy Daughter, were born in Spring 2006.
American Jacob Sheep
originated from an old British breed. It is documented that such sheep existed in England in the 1600s, but precise details of the origins are not recorded. The Jacob is still considered a rare breed by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, which means there are fewer than 1,000 annual registrations in the United States and estimated fewer than 5,000 in the world.
Over the next couple of years, other specimens will be added to the farm, harking back to the days when farming was the primary industry in Putnam County
(For more information on the Whipple Farm Animal Collection see link for Pine View Farm.)

Tilly Foster Farm was originally owned by Tillingham Foster, who founded the iron mine known by his name – Tilly Foster Iron Mine. In
1943 Mr. E. Benedict, a New York businessman. purchased Tilly Foster Farm and its dairy operations. The farm had 75 head of cattle, producing 8 to 10 cans of milk
daily. Mr. Benedict also bred horses at the farm and for many years, it was one of the leading thoroughbred farms in New York State producing such champions as 1969's Silent Scream and 1997 DelMar Derby Winner.
